Room Hire
Here at Portswood Church, we have been blessed with some wonderful spaces which we use to run our various ministries and activities. We are also sometimes able to hire out our spaces for community groups and charities so if you are interested in booking one of our spaces, please see the below summary of rooms and our hire charges.
For a regular booking, please note that we book for no more than 3 months at a time to allow flexility for the various ministries that we undertake as part of the church.
Please note that our building is not currently available for external hire on Saturdays or Sundays.
Please note the following statement before completing the below room booking form. 'Portswood Church is primarily our place of worship so we do not take external party bookings (either adult or children's parties) and we are an alcohol free venue so won't be appropriate for some types of events.'
NB: We are able to offer a discretionary 25% discount to registered charities on our hourly rate.
Please note that for groups of 50 people plus, we will ask for a refundable £200 deposit. We will only deduct from this deposit if events over run past the agreed booking times causing additional caretaking, in the case of damage or if rooms hired have not been left in the condition that they were found (i.e. resources have not been returned to cupboards, insufficient tidying up/cleaning so that ready for the next user).
*Caretaking
Our basic caretaking fee of £25 applies to all bookings and pays for someone to give you access to the space(s) you require, brief you on where things are so that you are able to set up appropriately and safely. They will then return to check that everything has been left as it was found and lock up at the end of your booking time.
NB: If additional physical assistance with set up is needed for your booking (for example, you need help moving chairs or tables), this needs to be agreed in advance so that an appropriately physically able caretaker can be sourced and this additional assistance will be charged at a rate of £11.50 per hour.
Main Hall
Includes flexible seating for up to 170 people (theatre style).
Measures 17.9m x 10.9m.
Hire of this space includes access to the servery/teapoint and toilets in the Foyer including a disabled toilet and baby changing station.
Hire rate: £28 an hour plus a caretaking fee of £25 (*please see caretaking note above)

Includes fixed seating for 70 people (theatre style). This area needs to be booked if PA access is required (please note that you need to provide your own experienced operator to run the equipment as it is not a service that we can offer).
If hired along side our Main Hall, the two spaces cost £35 an hour plus caretaking*.
Back Hall (with Main Kitchen & access to outside space)
Includes flexible seating for 40-50 (cafe style).
Measures: 9.65m x 6.65m.
Hire rate: £18 an hour plus caretaking*

Classroom 1 (with kitchenette)
Includes flexible seating for 10 (board room seating).
Measures: 6.95m x 3.25m
Hire rate: £12 an hour plus caretaking*
Classroom 2
Includes flexible seating for 10 (board room seating).
Measures: 6.95m x 3.40m
Includes a large wall mounted Smart TV with HDMI connections.
Hire rate: £12 an hour plus caretaking*
Classroom 3
Includes flexible seating for 10 (board room seating).
Measures: 6.95m x 2.8m.
Hire rate: £12 an hour plus caretaking*
If two classrooms are hired at the same time, the price is £14 an hour for two or if all three rooms are hired, the price is £18 an hour for three (plus caretaking).
Main Kitchen
Fully equipped with large catering sized oven, industrial dishwasher, large water urn, heated cabinet, hot plates, microwave, coffee maker and crockery to cater for over 100 people.
Hire rate (if hired with another room other than the Back Hall): £11 an hour
Hire rate (if hired on its own): £18 an hour plus caretaking*
Cedar Cafe (with Foyer and servery)
Includes 2 brown leather 2-seater sofas and flexible bistro tables and chairs for up to 20 people (cafe stlyle).
Measures: 7.2m x 2.9m
Hire rate: £14 an hour plus caretaking*
Facilities and accessibility:
All of our spaces have been made accessible with a lift to the upstairs classrooms at the back.
Every hireable space has access to disabled toilets.
Our front and back entrances are accessible by wheelchair or walker.
We have two baby changing stations, one off our Foyer and one off our Back Hall.
First aid kits and accident record logs can be located in each of our four kitchens.
We have a semi-automatic defibrillator on the front of our building.
Our forecourt has limited parking available and therefore we will usually only be able to make 2 spaces available to hirers. Speak to us about your parking options if you anticipate this being a problem (as there is lots of local parking, much of which is free).
We have two large TVs on wheeled stands which can be used by hirers on request along with DVD players. These both have HDMI so can be used with laptops.
We have a professional grade audio visual system in the Main Hall, however if required by a hirer, you will need to provide your own experienced technician to run this as we are unable to provide this service.
We have several different types of tables that you can choose from including:
- rectangular (seating up to 8)
- large round (seating up to 8)
- square (seating up to 4)
- Bistro style tables and chairs (seating up to 4)
- we have 100 wooden and fabric chairs in our Main Hall
- we have 40 metal and fabric chairs in our Back Hall
- we have 40 metal and fabric chairs across the 3 classrooms upstairs
